Sustainability

Atlasta’s sustainability oversight team is comprised of a Corporate Director of Sustainability, a Director of Waste Management, three full-time sorters and a logistic/driver collector. Atlasta believes in an all-encompassing sustainable philosophy that includes every facet of its organization.  Beyond energy, water, solid waste and packaging the following items are considered integral to Atlasta’s sustainable environment: software and technology are utilized to minimize paper waste, menus are engineered using forced ethics to effectively reduce overall carbon footprint, greenhouse gas emissions, supplier radius and animal proteinsTransparent sourcing from vendors, and competitive wages for employees.

Food Waste

Food waste is mitigated by forced ethics in menu engineering.  Atlasta’s food waste is diverted from landfill by utilizing the following process:

Human consumption: logistical support from Waste Not to supply nutritious, fresh food to feed people.  Over the last thirteen years, Atlasta has donated over one million pounds of food which is equivalent to 600,000 meals.

Animal (not for slaughter) consumption: Atlasta supports three local farms (involved in one-source farming and the sustainability movement) by supplying 100% of food product for animals (not for slaughter).

Compost: due to the above priority, food for compost has not been available since 2013- all food has been diverted to people and animals.
